When it comes to timeless footwear, the tassel loafer stands out as an essential in any modern, versatile wardrobe. If you're seeking the best, look no further than Edward Green’s Belgravia, which we view as the pinnacle of tassel loafers.
Although relatively 'modern' in the world of men's footwear, the tassel loafer has an intriguing history. In the optimistic post-war era of the late 1940s, Hungarian actor Paul Lukas became captivated by a pair of Oxford shoes with tassel-finished laces. He collaborated with American manufacturer Alden to devise a new shoe featuring tassels on a moccasin design. This convenient slip-on quickly became his favorite, sporting elegant, decorative details. Ivy League students in the 1950s picked up on the trend, solidifying its place in fashion history.
For over 70 years, the tassel loafer has been a staple in men’s fashion, with Edward Green’s Belgravia standing out as a top choice. Handmade in Northampton, England, the Belgravia uses the finest European leathers and exhibits perfect proportions with its almond-toe design, courtesy of the 184 last. The tassels add a charming touch to the vamp, while the signature plaiting along the sides enhances its elegance.
We’re thrilled to offer Edward Green’s Belgravia loafers in five exquisite colourways: oyster suede, snuff suede, dark oak antique calf leather, mink and espresso suede. The suede versions are unlined for greater comfort, ideal for the warmer months, while the dark oak calf is lined for the classic sturdy feeling. The espresso, mink and snuff suede Belgravia's feature thin rubber soles for year-round wear, while the oyster suede and dark oak calf variations are crafted on leather soles.
Our co-founder Dennis shares his enthusiasm for these stunning colorways: “The mink and espresso suedes add a sleek sophistication to the Belgravia, beautifully complementing blues, whites, and grey tones. On the other hand, the snuff suede loafer exudes the warm tones of an Indian summer. The oyster suede is an impeccable choice for any summer event, and the dark oak antique calf remains a classic and our perennial favorite.”
